Typography plays an important part in the ever – growing digital space. While the world gets more dependent on the digital medium, especially now that the global health crisis has led to people being on digital platforms more than ever before, I would like to take a moment to show you the emerging trends in the world of typography in the digital space

WIDE
TYPEFACES

We are witnessing the use of wide typefaces more than ever before. While fonts with near square proportions were all the rage previously, wider typefaces now seem to be picking up pace now.

VARIABLE FONTS

This shiny new tech in typography wouldn’t be considered anything short of sorcery a few years ago, but with Google, Adobe and Microsoft jointly pushing this technology, Variable fonts are becoming more and more common.

KINETIC TYPOGRAPHY

Kinetic typography has been in the mainstream design for quite some time now, but every year we witness some exciting changes and experiments.
Ticker type and text moving around circles are some of the most popular trends this year.

SERIFS REBOOTED

In the digital world, Serif fonts have largerly disappeared for their original purpose that was as body copy or text. Serifs however, have come back as highly stylish display text to be used in large sized headings and subheadings.
It’s quite interesting to see how typographers are experimenting with the form of the Serif font.

WHIMSICAL EXPERIMENTS

Bold. Unapologetic. Rebellious. The world is going through a transition and with increased self conciousness and awareness, it was only time till we saw visual symbolism of such elements make its way into the world of design. This year we are witnessing some highly experimental forms in the typography domain. With some fonts being “Serif but not Serif” to borderline over the top wide fonts, we see a lot of “shock” factor. Uncomfortable for the purists, this certainly is a glimpse of the times to come. Watch out!
